About Leaholme Rise Alpacas
How long has the business been operating? Leaholme Rise Alpacas began in 2010 and we breed both Huacaya & Suri Alpacas. Alpaca fleece has been called “Fibre of the Gods” since Incan times and once you feel it you’ll understand why.
What products/services does your business offer its customers?
Leaholme Rise Alpacas support our community through market days at Fig Tree Creek, Emu Park and Heritage Village where we sell all manner of Alpaca products from socks, scarves to blankets and Pet pillows all made in Australia with Australian grown Alpaca fleece and Australian owned. We sell raw fleece for those wanting to spin their own fleece or make their own garments. We also support local people by selling their products at the markets who make hand knitted and crocheted products for us as well as some recycled timber craft products.
“Beavona Lodge Boy O Boy” is our Suri male standing at stud along with “Shikota Starlight Flyer ET” our Huacaya stud male. Both these boys make beautiful crias (baby Alpacas).
We offer “Farm Tours” for those interested in learning about/owning Alpacas (minimum of 6 people).
What Achievements has the business made?
We believe in using Natural remedies for “Prevention” rather then cure with our Alpacas, choosing to NOT use chemicals unless absolutely necessary and our healthy herd is a testament to our practices. We also believe in “Gentling” our animals rather than forcing them into halter training or anything else.
What local not-for-profit organisations does your business support?
We support Emu Park Lions Club, Keppel Coast Arts and Heritage Village through our attendance at their market days. We also regularly donate to the RSPCA and Capricorn Animal Aid. We have donated a pet pillow as a prize to be raffled to raise much needed funds for the RSPCA Rockhampton. Please help by buying a raffle ticket when you see the RSPCA volunteers at your local shopping centre mid-2014.

About Melanie Hibbett
We have both been bitten by the “Alpaca” bug and our lives pretty much revolve around our beautiful animals and property at Nankin. Having previously worked in Office management and State Government Mel “retired” in 2008 to pursue other interests also studying horticulture and ended up breeding Alpacas. Branton still works full time as well as on the farm.
